UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak has condemned “in the strongest terms” Iran’s “reckless attack” against Israel after Tehran had launched drones towards the country.
Sunak said the UK will “continue to stand up for Israel’s security and that of all our regional partners, including Jordan and Iraq” following the regional escalation.
In a statement on Saturday, Sunak said: “I condemn in the strongest terms the Iranian regime’s reckless attack against Israel.
“These strikes risk inflaming tensions and destabilising the region.
“Iran has once again demonstrated that it is intent on sowing chaos in its own backyard.
“The UK will continue to stand up for Israel’s security and that of all our regional partners, including Jordan and Iraq.
“Alongside our allies, we are urgently working to stabilise the situation and prevent further escalation. No one wants to see more bloodshed.”
Iran had launched aerial drones at Israel, appearing to mark a widely anticipated reprisal attack.
Iran had vowed to retaliate for an attack on its consulate in Syria on 1 April which killed seven military officers, including a top commander.
It accused Israel of carrying out that attack. Israel neither confirmed nor denied it.
