The Sultan of
Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad III, has called on the Government of the Nothern region to take decisive actions on parents who refuse to send their children to school.
Sultan stated this in his address at this year international day for girl child education held at the auditorium hall of Sultan Maccido Institute of Quranic and General studies in Sokoto.
He called on government at all levels to enact a law that will compel parents to send their wards, especially girls to school or face stiff punishment if they fail to.
Sultan Abubakar also disclosed that the Nothern Traditional Rulers Council is set to hold a stakeholders meeting to determine the actual number of out of school children and find a way out.
He condemned the general beliefs from some certain part of the country that Northerners don’t value education, saying the celebration is to show the world that the region values education.
He, therefore, called on the students to brace up and be more educated, saying the state needs more female Doctors, Pilots and other professional callings.
He further called on women not to let marriage stop being educated, saying education can not stop marriage while marriage should not stop education.
Earlier in her address, the keynote speaker, Dr Larai Aliyu Tambuwal, highlighted the effects of menstruation in a woman.
She further highlighted some of the abnormal effects during menstruation, the effects of poor menstruation hygiene as well as benefits of good menstrual hygiene.
