Sukuk bond aims at Islamising Nigeria ―Ex Benue CAN boss

Published by

IMMEDIATE past chairman, Benue State Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Most Rev Yimam Orkwar has called on federal government to cancel the purported Sukkuk bond it floated.

In a communique issued at the synod of the All Nations Evangelism Ministry and signed by Orkwar a copy made available to our correspondent in Makurdi on Sunday described the bond as ‘unconstitutional, illegal and attempt to Islamize Nigeria through the Sharia banking policy.’

“It is a plan that is currently being executed through legislative action, i.e amendment of Securities and Exchange Commission Acts. We encourage Christians to defend the secular nature of the Nigerian State.”

On IPOD, the Christian body said it believes in the unity and sovereignty of Nigeria and called on the leader of IPOB, Kanu, to exercise restraint in exercising his right of freedom of expression.

The communique also commended federal government for the decision to dredge river Benue and called on it to give the project a priority so as to permanently solve the perennial flooding in Benue.
