Subsidy removal: NASS launches eight coaster buses for staff welfare

Published by

The National Assembly Management launched eight new coaster buses on Monday to ease the transportation of parliamentary staff.

The buses, which are the first of their kind to be provided by the management, were launched by the Clerk to the National Assembly, CNA, Magaji Tambawal, as part of palliative measures to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal on the staff.

Speaking at a brief launch and handing over of the vehicles to the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, said the gesture was a demonstration of the commitment of the 10th National Assembly under the chairmanship of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, in addressing the wellbeing of staff.

He explained that when the request for the provisions of welfare buses came to the table of the Senate President, he did not hesitate in giving his approval, given his commitment to the welfare of parliamentary staff.

He urged those who would be in charge of the buses to imbibe the culture of maintenance, which he said was lacking in the country in the management of public properties

The new buses are to be deployed on various routes within and outside the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Abuja

This came just as the CNA had also ensured the implementation of the new N35,000 wage award for staff of the National Assembly as part of measures to ameliorate the impact of the recent fuel subsidy removal in the country.
