FOR many ladies with bowlegs, trying to keep up with fashion trends can be tiresome and such persons may find themselves limited when it comes to choosing outfits, particularly with skirts, pants and shorts.
However, bowlegs should not necessarily constitute a nightmare, as there are ways to minimise discomfort, depending on the intensity of the arch.
Exude confidence
For bowlegged people, you can wear almost anything. The key to slaying the look is the confidence with which you carry yourself. As long as you feel confident enough to believe that your person is not defined by your legs – there are many without legs who would wish to have yours anyway – the fashion world is yours for the taking. Whether short skirts, skinny jeans, or stiletto heels, the first rule to boosting your fashion ego is poise, grace and confidence.
Draw attention away from your legs
Style really is first and foremost about comfort. As such, if you don’t feel up to flaunting your legs, go instead for full-length free dresses, long, full pants, mid-calf skirts and pants. Instead of drawing unnecessary attention to the legs, wear flattering blouses and shirts, bold necklaces and a beautiful hairdo. Avoid short skirts (whether tight or flared), skinny jeans or shorts. If you have to wear high heels, make sure you are wearing a full-length outfit so that all you’re emphasising is your height and not your legs. Flats also work well, depending on the pairing, as tight-fitting skirt or pants with flats will only help to draw unnecessary attention to your legs.
Go solid
Another way bowlegged ladies can work with their legs is to wear lower outfits that are in neutral colours, and make the blouse a full print option. Colours like black or grey will comfortably hide your bowlegs.
Stand right
It is enough to have bowlegs. It is another thing to deliberately emphasise the curve by standing awkwardly, whether consciously or otherwise. It is not for fun that many celebrities cross their legs when posing for pictures – see Tonto Dike’s beautiful pose even in a short dress. When you cross your lower legs, it becomes a bit harder to realise that the legs are bow. You can also stand sideways when posing for photographs; push your toes forward; or slightly raise one leg upward, facing a little sideways.
Choose the right shoes
For ladies with bowlegs, try as much as possible to avoid shoes with lengthy straps that wrap around the lower leg, especially if you’re wearing a short outfit. They will only help to emphasise your legs. Also avoid tight-fitting shoes as the strain on your foot will also emphasise your legs. You can wear shoes with low heels, wedges, flats, among others, as long as you pair them with the right outfit.
Most importantly, always, always and always love your legs just the way they are. Contrary to what you think or what photographs present, when it comes to female body perfection, no woman has it all.
