Style 101: Trend vs Style

Published by

Tosin Imosemi of Tosanne Vogue International, in this piece, posits that though there will always be a new trend, to try to follow every trend on the fashion scene will not only be  foolhardy, but uncreative and  will  eventually put a dent in your pocket.

As a fashion designer, my favourite quote is, “Trends come and go but style is eternal.” That quote says it all. Fashion is fashion while style is what you make of fashion or yourself. That is the reason you must ensure that your style remains constant even when following a fad or a trend.

Fashion shouldn’t swallow up your style rather, it should fit into it. Your style should tell us who you are before we have the opportunity to speak to you, hence the reason you need to find your own style. We all have personalities that are different and are expressed through our fashion choices. Mirroring another person’s mode of dressing doesn’t mean you have that person’s style. Confidence and a healthy self – esteem helps one to develop and carry one’s style with dignity.

If you really want to stand out from the crowd then, it is not really about what’s in vogue but more about what is your vogue. It is when you know your vogue that you can make what is in vogue work for you!
