Strike: More compliance in Oyo as public school students return home

Published by

Compliance with the strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Oyo State went a notch higher on Wednesday as students of public schools were turned back home.

The development, it was gathered, was a sequel to a circular from the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) on Tuesday night, asking its members to comply with the strike directive of its mother body, the NLC.

While some teachers who got wind of the circular in time stayed away from work, the few who turned up in school to ascertain the state of things were told of the development.

Apparently, in compliance with the circular, students in Ibadan schools were seen between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. exiting their school gates.

Not only did the school management ask their students to leave, but they also told them not to come to school until they heard that the strike was called off.

While some opened and later asked their pupils to leave, there were those primary schools that did not open their gates at all for the day.
