The Osun State Government has ordered Mr Olufemi Olayinka to stop parading himself as the Olu-odo of Odo-Ijesa in the Atakumosa East Local Government of the state.
The government, declaring his installation as a community monarch null and void, stated that Olayinka did not follow due process to become the monarch and was installed by the Ogboni of Ipole, Oba Samson Oyeleye.
In a letter sent to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs by the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Barrister Samuel Ojo, on behalf of the state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, in a copy obtained by the Tribune on Tuesday in Osogbo, the regent of the town, High Chief Olugbenga Ogunniyi, was to continue overseeing the affairs of the community.
The medium gathered that the Special Adviser had earlier sent a letter to the state governor to inform him of the situation in the community.
The letter noted that if the illegal installation was not urgently looked into, it would plunge the town into a state of unrest and anarchy.
The letter sent to the Governor read in part, “We received with dismay the shocking news of the illegal installation of Olodo of Odo-Ijesa last week without recourse to due process with the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Kingmakers of Odo-Ijesa, and Osun State Executive Council in general. This is posing a grievous security threat to the town.
“It is most unfortunate that the ‘Kangaroo’ installation of Hon. Olufemi Olayinka as Olodo of Odo-Ijesa by the Ogboni of Ipole, Oba Samson Kehinde Oyeleye, has created panic and pandemonium among the residents of Odo-Ijesa because youth restiveness is on the rise and may boil over if immediate actions are not taken to meet the demands of the people.
“This illegality will continue to plunge the town into a state of unrest and anarchy if adequate steps are not taken.”
“I wish to refer to the above subject matter and to convey the directive of His Excellency, the Governor of Osun State, Senator Nurudeen Jackson Ademola Adeleke to you about the illegal installation of Olu-odo of Odo-Ijesa, which was done two weeks ago by Ogboni of Ipole Oba Samson Kehinde Oyeleye, that did not follow due process of the state government and is now causing a serious threat and unrest in the community.
“You are to invite Hon. Olufemi Olayinka, who was illegally installed, to desist from further parading himself as Olu-odo of Odo-Ijesa while they should await the civil suit that is already in court for its final determination.
The Regent of Odo-Ijesa, High Chief Olugbenga Ogunniyi, who has been overseeing the community’s welfare, has therefore been ordered to continue as it were until the installation of the Olu-odo of Odo-Ijesa is finally approved by His Excellency through your able office.
However, the illegal installation has been described by His Excellency as null and void,” the letter sent to the Ministry reads.
Meanwhile, the indigenes of the community had earlier on Monday protested the installation of the new Olodo of Odo Ijesa, Olufemi Olayinka.
The protesters who converged at the Odo market with placards to register their displeasure said the installation of Olayinka did not follow due processes.
They called on the governor to quickly look into the process that led to the installation of the king, adding that the situation might lead to chaos in the community if not immediately checked.
Speaking with newsmen, the youth leader of the community, Olalekan Bamidele, said the protest was born out of the choice of Olayinka as monarch, saying the people of the town preferred Prince Adeniran Oluwadare to rule over them.
Also, the Regent of the town, High Chief Gbenga Ogunniyi, implored the state government to consider the progress and development of the town by appointing the rightful prince, Adeniran Oluwadare, who was ordained by the gods as the new king of the town.
Meanwhile, when contacted on the phone, the installed king, Oba Olufemi, remarked, “They are lying. Is it possible to install a king without the knowledge of the government? Won’t the government have come to pick the king and those who installed him?”
“The only person that has the right to install a king in Ijesa South Federal Constituency is the Ogboni of Ipole Ijesa, and he was the one who installed me.”
“Under the chieftaincy law of Osun State, he is the person with the right to install a king in Ijesa South Federal Constituency, and he was the one that installed me.”
“You know there is no way someone will have 100 per cent. Those protesting have the right to protest once they are not satisfied with a process.”
“I will urge those protesting to let peace reign. Though there is no problem in the town, like I said in my acceptance speech that day, I am not fighting anybody. If two people are fighting for one thing, it will definitely go to one person. Five people vied for the position, and I was chosen.
“I’m calling on those who are still angry to let us work together for the progress of the town. I don’t take anyone as an enemy. We will all work together for the development of the town”.
