Stop abuse by security operatives

At a time like this when the security of lives and properties is under threat in the country and when it is evident that the South-West part of the country is under siege of kidnappers and killers presumed to be Fulani herdsmen, it is sensible for a reasonable government to channel virtually all its security apparatuses, of which human resources are part of, towards tackling the security challenges at hand.

But reverse is the case in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), especially the Oyo State Command. If the government had drafted them into serious work alongside other security agencies, they would be too busy to be used as tools in the hands of mischievous individuals.

Few days back, an NSCDC officer attached to a private individual started firing gunshots for unknown reasons around Alakia-Isebo area Ibadan, when there was no obvious threat around because the person he was attached to was leaving home for a function

The whole area went into disarray with residents thinking the area had been invaded. For one security man on the payroll of government to disturb the peace of the whole community because of one individual is indeed indiscipline.

Now, residents live in fear of intimidation and being hit by stray bullets. I know every Nigerian is entitled to protection when requested for, but the question is, if security is given to a private individual, is it to disturb the peace of others and become a terror? Why would a former union boss be given six NSCDC officers in the name of  personal security? This is an abuse.

Sadiq, Akinkunmi,

Ibadan.
