Stephen needs help for kidney transplant

Published by

LIKE his peers, he had anticipated a bright future; a future of going to a higher institution, graduating with a degree and becoming a professional, but that is not to be. At least for now.

Stephen Oluwagbemiga Adekunle, 18, is presently ill, suffering from chronic kidney disease.

According to the medical report on him, by the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, dated 24 February, 2017, “Stephen has a history of breathlessness of three days cough and fever, which was diagnosed at Babcock University about four months ago. He had had three sessions of haemodialysis before.”

The report, written by Dr. Oyebisi O.O for consultant nephrologist, medical investigations reveal chronic kidney diseases in the  end stage, which has necesitated putting Stephen on weekly dialysis.

The report stated further that; “he will benefit from kidney transplant because haemodyalisis is not sustainable on a long-time basis and for better quality of life and survival.”

Today, there are two options for Stephen on where to carry out a kidney transplant. If the transplant is done in Nigeria, he would have to look for between N8 million and N10 million, depending on the dialysis centre. If it takes place outside Nigeria, it would cost him between N20m and N25m.

The reality, however, is that his parents can’t afford anything near these figures. It is in view of this that Stephen is calling on fellow Nigerians for help him so that he could be restored to full health by going for a kidney transplant in ernest, as any delay may be fatal.

Anybody who wishes to contact Stephen could do so on this telephone number: 0703 476 8914.
