Senator Ibikunle Amosun
The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has warned the national leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to stay away from the State or be disgraced over its planned national protest.
The protest scheduled to take place on Friday (today) had been rescheduled to hold next week Tuesday.
Amosun during a live radio programme monitored by the Nigerian Tribune in Abeokuta, said that the labour leaders were “playing politics” and not sincere with the planned protest.
“l learnt that some people are planning to stage a protest in the state, to be led by the National President of NLC, Comrade Wabba, tell them to stay away or they will be disgraced. They are coming here to play politics, tell them that they will be disgraced,” he said.
Nigerian Tribune recalls that Wabba wrote a letter to the governor on the planned protest over what it described as “anti-workers policies” of the state government.

The NLC president said workers across the country would occupied the state to express their displeasure on the attitude of government towards workers welfare.
Reacting, the state chairman of NLC, Comrade Akeem Ambali, insisted that the protest as proposed by the Union would go on as planned.
Ambali said the governor should rather adopt a matured approach to resolve all the issues raised by NLC rather than resulting to blackmail and intimidation.
He therefore called on all security agencies in the state to provide adequate security for those that would be participating in the protest.
Ambali said: “Labour therefore wishes to counsel Ogun State Government that instead of resulting to blackmail, intimidation to oppress workers, it will be more honourable to adopt a matured approach of dialogue with labour before Tuesday 5th March to resolve all issues as no man has a monopoly of power and wisdom most especially when this immunity will expire within the next three months.”
“We wish to notify all security agencies to be more vigilant and provide security cover to all labour leaders to prevent their assassination before, during and after the mother of all protest coming up next week Tuesday.”
