Entrepreneurship may alleviate poverty, but worship elevates the poor!
There is no scarcity in quality worship, but there is a scarcity of quality worship!
From my previous article on the power of “ONE” (Opportunity, Necessity and Entrepreneurship), I made it abundantly clear that transforming realities into business opportunities is “entrepreneurship of necessity.” Entrepreneurial success occurs when necessity meets opportunity and an entrepreneur’s preparation (Es = (O+N+E). Entrepreneurship is the function of the entrepreneur (E=f (e)).
Entrepreneurship is about undertaking responsibilities and overtaking possibilities. It is a concept of man carved from the field of Economics. Spiritual entrepreneurship is connected to worship (sacrificing unto God). According to Henry Ford, “A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business.” This simply means that entrepreneurship should not only be about making money, it should be about impact as well. With respect to profit and impact, spiritual entrepreneurship does not actually make sense. It is worship mechanics and dynamics that defy science and economic principles. Economics is the science of efficient allocation and utilisation of scarce resources to achieve optimum value/returns for the benefit of the society. The reality of scarcity and poverty is validated by research findings, but no scientific instrument is potent and reliable to search out the mysteries in supernatural abundance and prosperity. Prosperity transcends money; it is about sufficiency in all good things of life. Economics hammers on efficiency in resource allocation and utilisation, while spiritual entrepreneurship stresses on resource sufficiency provoked by acts of the supernatural! The most important partnership is not business partnership; it is “worship partnership.” Worship is one of the programmes of God for mankind to live in the supernatural realm. Natural laws are suspended and limitations are broken in this narrative. When we give to the needy, we don’t do so to alleviate poverty, we do it to elevate ourselves. Giving to the poor is lending unto God. These are not economic principles. They are “feedstock” for the occurrence of the supernatural!
It is not then out of place to classify entrepreneurship into three main categories as follows: Social, Business and Spiritual entrepreneurship. Social entrepreneurship is about serving, and reserving treasures for the next generation – making impact. Business entrepreneurship is about investing in a profitable, low risk ventures to later harvest the investments in what is technically called return on investment (ROI) – profit. Spiritual entrepreneurship is about being faithful to God through various acts of obedience in order to be fruitful, the religious term for this is blessing.
Social Entrepreneurship – serve and reserve (impact)
Business Entrepreneurship – invest to harvest (profit)
Spiritual Entrepreneurship – faithfulness for fruitfulness (blessing)
Entrepreneurship is one of the concepts associated to man. Man is limited, so are his concepts. God designed worship so he can be involved in the affairs of man through His divine nature. God is unlimited so are His designs. So, instead of entrepreneurship, we talk of worship, divine wisdom instead of economic principles and spiritual understanding, instead of outstanding strategies. Thus, God should be acknowledged as the source of knowledge and one who has the knowledge of the source of all resources. There is no scarcity in worship, but there is a scarcity of worship. The simple definition of worship is to honour God. The best ways to honour God are through offering our substance, service and sacrifice to serve God and humanity. Prosperity happens when entrepreneurship of necessity is practiced in the face of opportunity. Taking a cue from this insight, spiritual entrepreneurship (worship) is a necessity that will naturally attract divine opportunity. When preparation meets opportunity, success is inevitable! I’d rather say when necessity meets opportunity, prosperity is inevitable. When we discuss entrepreneurship, we usually mention creativity and innovation as its bedrock. However, worship is about faith (evidence of things not seen) and faithfulness (obedience to things commanded). The strength of worship is magnified in the weakness of entrepreneurship. Businesses may fail, technology may not work, creativity may decline and the entrepreneurial spirit which is said to be characterised by risk taking may not always yield harvests. Worship does not involve risk taking, but guarantees results. We don’t have to be creative to worship; but we must worship to be creative!
The benefits of worship/spiritual entrepreneurship
The diffrences between worship and “oneship”
By now, we should be familiar with the acronym “ONE” which represents Opportunity-Necessity-Entrepreneurship.
My worship and oneship experiences
I came from a poor family and struggled through life in my early years on earth. I tried to liberate my family from the hardship and perpetual lack by thinking of the solutions I could offer humanity which will bring prosperity into my family. I started using my creative ability to craft innovations and solutions. After wasting precious resources on irrelevant innovations and waiting for opportunity to find preparation, I later discovered the need to go into entrepreneurship of necessity (identifying real problems and proffering useful solutions). It was then that opportunity found necessity (proliferation of the solutions for business purpose).
For over a decade, since I became a philanthropist and while growing in capacity to give back to society, I have experienced the wonders of living sacrificially and honouring God in worship. I remember the day I gave out my only car to a family of three. This was actually repeated on two other occasions even though the first experience was as if that would be my last, because it didn’t make sense to me. Who does that? Little did I know I was only responding to the call to worship (rich people reach people and thoughtful people touch lives). Today, I am blessed with a robust chain of businesses and have quality business partners home and abroad, just because I made God my first business partner through the act of worship.
We may create amiss but we can never give amiss. Entrepreneurship is the passion to create value. Worship on the other hand is valuing God’s creations and showing compassion to them (animals inclusive). Technology is useless without empathy. Innovation is nothing without the anointing and grace to improve the human race.
