Speed up trials of alleged corrupt Nigerians, N/Delta activist urges FG

The Federal Government has been urged to speed up trials of corruption cases against alleged corrupt politicians in the country including those from the Niger Delta.

The call came from a Niger Delta activist, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, in a statement made available to journalists in Warri, Delta State at the weekend.

He urged Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari in his fight against corruption.

It will be recalled that the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) weekend said it recovered $9,772,800 and another £74,000 cash from one of the houses of a former Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Andrew Yakubu, in Kaduna.

The  Commission, in another breakthrough raid in Lagos, said that it  discovered N11.75bn allegedly said to be that of former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Mulade, who’s the coordinator of the Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), expressed shock at the recovery of $9,772,800 and another £74,000 cash from  Dr Yakubu alone in Kaduna amid squalor in the Niger Delta region.

“I also learnt that the EFCC in its  aggressive drive  to recover all hidden assets of former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who is under investigation for corruption and money laundering, produced another breakthrough last week with the discovery of a property acquired through Shell companies by the former minister at upscale Banana Island in Lagos,” he lamented.

He  solicited the support of Nigerians in stemming the scourge of corruption in various facets of the economy, and rooted for speedy trial of  corrupt Nigerians.
