Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi,
Enugu State Government says it is targeting no fewer than one million children in the Sub-National Immunisation plus days in the state.
Dr George Ugwu, the Executive Secretary of Enugu State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ENS-PHCDA) disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Friday.
Ugwu said that “the immunisation is for children between the ages of 0 and 59 months.”
He added that the four days statewide exercise, which would kick-off on Saturday, Jan. 18, would run till Jan. 21, noting that there might be some extra days for mop-up if need be.
He explained that the agency had already trained and mobilised 479 immunisation teams who would be thoroughly supervised to ensure that they reached hard-to-reach areas.
The executive secretary said that the exercise had been planned in such a way that “no child is left out.
“We have mobilised all our partners, focal persons and health personnel for this all-important exercise.
“The exercise will not only kick-out polio in its entirety but will re-emphasise Enugu State’s polio-free status.”
Ugwu said that the agency had mobilised traditional rulers, community leaders, religious and educational heads concerning the polio immunisation.
He said that immunisation teams would be visiting children from street-to-street, worship centres, schools, playgrounds, markets, hospitals and any other place a child can be found in the state.
“We are appealing to our people, especially mothers and caregivers, to support the exercise and see that all children around them below five years are immunised,’’ he said.
