Speakership: Onyejeocha support group assures of new perspective to lawmaking

An advocacy group known as Onyejeocha for Speaker Solidarity Front (OSSF) has assured lawmakers-elect and Nigerians to expect a new perspective to lawmaking in a manner that will endear the House of Representatives to the people and guarantee a robust executive-legislative interdependence.

The group which has committed itself to Nkeiru Onyejeocha, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a 4th term legislator, representing Isuikwato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, is also appealing to the incoming lawmakers to give women a chance to do something outstanding and different.

OSSF in a statement by its coordinators, Ololade Olatunji and Imam-Lawal Ummulikhaeri, said that: “after 20 years of a sustained democratic rule, Nigerians indeed deserve a new perspective to lawmaking in a strategic manner that will open up the National Assembly to the people and guarantee public confidence in the lawmakers.

“We cannot deny the fact that since 1999, many Nigerians have developed and nursed an unenviable impression about the National Assembly for different reasons, and there has also been a deliberate attempt to malign the legislative arm, but unfortunately, there has been no concerted efforts to address these concerns and change the perception.

“But with Nkeiru Onyejeocha, things will change for the best, because she will bring to bear on the House of Representatives, her administrative experience as a former commissioner, her executive knowledge as a former local government chairman and her foremost legislative capacity as a fourth term member of the Green Chamber.

“As an excellent leader who has carved a special political career for herself, Nkeiru Onyejeocha has promised to introduce new ideas that will give the lawmakers a sense of pride and launder the image of the House of Representatives as the hallowed chamber of truth, wisdom and efficiency.

“She will not only inspire millions of young women and men to imbibe the can-do spirit, but she has also equally made herself available to serve the nation with courage and be at the forefront of leading a new orientation that will forever positively change the perception of Nigerians toward the House of Representatives.

“It is therefore with immense pride that we speak for a woman who is backed by qualification, proven capacity and most importantly, an understanding of the issues and what needs to be done to secure the future of Nigeria and the sanctity of Nigerians, by working with the other arms of government.

“We, therefore, urge the lawmakers-elect to the 9th legislative session to give her a chance to lead the house and provide exceptional leadership and our request is supported by justice and fairness to all sides and all parts of the country,” the statement added.
