Speaker Abbas felicitates Gowon at 90th birthday

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, on Friday congratulated former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon on his 90th birthday, describing him as “patriotism personified.”

General Gowon, born on October 19, 1934, will turn 90 tomorrow, Saturday.

The Speaker noted General Gowon’s invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s unity, applauding the ex-Head of State as a hero.

Speaker Abbas stated that General Gowon is not only a patriot of repute but also a unifier, which is why Nigerian leaders and future generations should emulate him.

Describing General Gowon as a perfect elder statesman, Speaker Abbas emphasized that the former Head of State has paid his dues and should be celebrated by every Nigerian.

“I join millions of our compatriots in celebrating our dear former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, who turns 90 years old.

“I can boldly say that General Gowon remains one of Nigeria’s finest, most committed, and dedicated leaders. His heroics during his tenure as Head of State ensured that we remain one nation.

“As a nation, we must celebrate this icon. He is a beacon of hope and a unifying factor in our country, occupying a significant place in our history of nationhood.

“I am pleased to note that the patriotism with which General Yakubu Gowon served Nigeria as Head of State remains unwavering in him. In fact, he is patriotism personified.

“As leaders, we look to General Gowon for guidance. I pray that Almighty God will keep him in good health so we can continue to benefit from his wise counsel,” the Speaker said.
