The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, on Monday, expressed sorrow over the death of 40 individuals in a boat mishap in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
On Saturday, around 40 people were reported to have lost their lives in the incident. The Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA) stated that the boat was carrying approximately 50 passengers at the time of the accident.

Speaker Abbas described the mishap as “one too many,” noting that he received the news of the “tragic and saddening incident” with a heavy heart.
Additionally, the Speaker expressed concern over the recent floods that devastated Gummi LGA, displacing hundreds of people.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Zamfara State, particularly those in Gummi LGA, over the unfortunate incidents.
The Speaker also called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant agencies to provide immediate relief assistance to the affected individuals and communities.
