Southern youth leaders endorse Buhari

Published by

Leaders of youth organisations, civil society groups, trade unions, religious groups,  political and non political organizations in the Seventeen Southern states of Nigeria, under the aegis of the Southern Youth Leaders Forum on Wednesday in Ibadan, rose to endorse the decision of the Nigerian Army to launch what it described as  “Operation Safe Conduct for the 2019 elections”.

This is just as the representatives of the various groups also frown on what it called the subversive activities of some online media organizations in Nigeria, whom they accused of giving the Boko Haram insurgents undue  publicity, through false narratives and outright falsehood as the general election approaches.

APC to PDP: Stop overheating the polity

The group in a communique read by its Conveners, Comrade Odeyemi Oladimeji, Barr John Atani and Engr Fidelis Eze KSR, said they took the decision, in the overall interest of the Southern Nigeria geopolitical region, as they believe that the launch of the operation, will positively impact on the success of the 2019 general elections.

The group said previous peace keeping  exercises by the Nigerian Army, particularly under the exemplary leadership of General Tukur Yusufu Buratai  have recorded great success and have assisted the country in tackling various forms of criminal activities and internal security challenges.

“May we remind Nigerians that the interests around the forthcoming general elections are massive and we are all witnesses to the desperation of some politicians to hijack power by all means. If the body languages of these politicians are anything to go by,  then we must appreciate the need for adequate security for our citizens. Hence our appreciation to the Nigerian Army, it’s leadership and more importantly the Chief of Army Staff,  Lt General Tukur Yusufu Buratai for coming up, with this laudable and patriotic initiative”

“We  hereby encourage  our teeming members and associates to cooperate with the Nigerian Army and other sister security agencies in order to ensure that we have  a peaceful elections.”

The group also restated its earlier endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term in office. The group said Nigerians are appreciative Of Buhari’s untiring commitment to the war against corruption and the restoration of Nigeria’s lost glory. It urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, to massively reelect President Buhari come February 16, 2019, as President.
