South-West vigilance group begins securing Ekiti border communities

The Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), South-West zone has launched a move to secure border communities  and also declared war on cross-border terrorism and other crimes in the region.

VGN, at its meeting in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, said it was determined to ensure peaceful coexistence in the communities and to fashion out a measure that would be employed to ensure it accomplishes its mandate.

The Ondo State Commandant of VGN, Gideon Akinwumi and the Deputy Commandant, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Matthew Omojuni, told newsmen that the increase in the wave of armed robbery and other vices in the South-West was regrettable and expressed the readiness of the group to curb the menace.

Akinwumi said: “We ‘re here to form a synergy on how so as to combat crime in the South-West will ensure that this zone becomes a no-go area for criminals and terrorists.”

Also, the Ekiti State Commandant of the security outfit, Bola Aliu and her Osun State counterpart, Fatai Akintola, called on governments at all levels to provide patrol vehicles, arms and ammunition as well as all other logistics for the security group in order to enable it fight crime in the region.

“Governments in this area should strive to work with us, by giving us the necessary tools to work with and get rid of criminals,” Aliu said.

The founder of Afe Babalola University, Chief Afe Babalola, at the forum charged them to continue to do more and ensure the security of life and property nationwide.

Babalola, who was represented by the vice chancellor of the institution, Professor Michael Ajisafe, expressed dismay at the rising wave of crime and other related offences in the country.

He expressed the optimism that the outfit was the surest way of securing the country.

At the forum were commandants of the group from across the South-West, which include Bola-Aliu, Ekiti State; Gideon Akinwumi, Ondo State; Akintola Fatai, Osun State.

Others are Adesanya Adegbenga, Ogun State; Oladeji Olowolafe, Oyo State and Matthew Omojuni from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
