South-West NURTW leader to Baruwa: Stop embarrassing Yoruba race

Published by

Alhaji Nosiru Komolafe, former National Treasurer and prominent leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the South-West, has urged Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa to cease damaging the reputation of the Yoruba race with his aggressive pursuit of the NURTW presidency.

Komolafe criticised the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for its partiality in the union crisis, stating that Baruwa’s leadership had destroyed the South West’s union foundation.

“The South West has been in turmoil due to Baruwa’s actions. In 46 years, our union has faced challenges, but never this level of crisis,” Komolafe said.

He described Baruwa’s four-year tenure as disastrous, eroding legacies built by past leaders like Alhaji Oseni and Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasin.

Komolafe regretted the NLC’s bias under President Joe Ajaero, contrasting it with past leaders’ impartiality.

“The NLC, that is supposed to be an impartial arbiter, decided to take sides, contrary to the disposition of past leaders such as Pascal Bafyau, Abdulwahid Omar, and Adams Oshiomhole, who had waded into union crises without necessarily aligning with any faction.

“But the reverse is the case with Joe Ajaero, the current president, who wants to install Baruwa at all costs because of his own selfish and sinister motives.”

Alhaji Komolafe explained that union members in the South West had endorsed Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya as their sole candidate, warning that another term under Baruwa would devastate the union to its foundation.
