GOVERNORS of the South-East geopolitical zone have begun moves to persuade the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to drop his struggle for an independent state of Biafra.

The governors met Kanu at the Government House, Enugu, behind closed doors for several hours on Wednesday, where issues such as Biafra Republic and the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election were said to have been discussed.

Briefing journalists at the end of the meeting, chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, said they had noted the demands and concerns of IPOB.

“The South-East governors today met with the leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, together with Professor Ben Nwabueze and Evangelist Elliot Uko.

“The meeting deliberated on the demands of IPOB and noted their concerns accordingly.

“However, the meeting agreed that these demands by IPOB should not be absolute, rather the South East governors shall immediately engage the leader and the entire leadership of IPOB in further meetings and dialogue, with a view to quickening the resolutions of all issues amicably,” the communique read.

Nigerian Tribune observed that the Radio Biafra director, who was in a Jewish attire, arrived the venue of the meeting in a white Toyota Venza with inscription ” Eze S I Kanu,” accompanied by an ash color Toyota Sienna at about 1:20 p.m. amid tight security and was later driven off immediately after posing for a group photograph with the governors.

Meanwhile, the governors and some Igbo leaders, including the president of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief John Nwodo and former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, commenced another round of meeting after Kanu had left.
