South-east cannot get presidency without APC ―Oyegun

Published by

NATIONAL chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Odigie Oyegun has declared that the only condition that would guarantee the nation presidency for the south-east was for it to abandon the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) and join the ruling party.

Checks revealed that only Imo state is the only state in the zone under the control of the APC while the PDP holds sway in Ebonyi, Enugu, and Abia while the All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA) governors Anambra state.

The APC national chairman while inaugurating the party campaign committee for the Anambra election, enjoined politicians from the zone to have a rethink and join forces with the ruling party to be relevant at the centre.

He said: ‘’we must change the narrative in south-east and that should start with Anambra. The APC represents the most viable option for any south-east person to the presidency of this country.’’

Bauchi state governor and chairman of the party 48-member campaign committee, Mohammed Abubakar declared that the All Progressives Congress, (APC) was determined to unseat his counterpart in Anambra state and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA) Willie Obiano in the forthcoming election.

He told newsmen that the incumbent Anambra state governor seeking fresh mandate could be defeated, as he noted that incumbency has become a non-issue in the nation’s politics.

He said: ‘’Of course, a sitting governor is always a threat but we defeated a sitting president in 2015. God works in a mysterious way.’’

He also allayed fears that the reconciliation efforts by the party national working committee could be undermined as a result of the absence of certain aggrieved aspirants who stayed away from the reconciliation meeting and inauguration of the campaign committee.

‘’If you haven’t seen a single aspirant, he must have a reason for not being here. If there is anyone that isn’t here it is my responsibility to reach out to him.’’

In his own remarks, the party candidate, Tony Nwoye said he was determined to tackle poverty in the state.

‘’We want to move our people out of bondage. Anambra is in shambles and we need to move the people out of the doldrums. We are moving to the centre, my people are being marginalized and we need to come to the mainstream of Nigerian politics.’’
