Soun of Ogbomoso: Tayo Adiatu, Alao Akala’s daughter, Olamide Alabi mourn 

The death of the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Oladunni Oyewumi, Ajagungbade III, who died at the age of 95, came as a shock to all, especially the sons and daughters of the town.

The Soun was buried according to Islamic rites on Sunday within the palace. He reigned for 48 years.

Since the demise of the monarch, notable Nigerians have continued to pay tribute to the 20th Soun of Ogbomoso land.

In his own reaction, Mr Tayo Adiatu, the CEO of Tulcan Energy, expressed that the news greeted him with shock and dismay, adding that it was a terrible loss.

He further said that during his reign, the Soun was an extraordinary leader, a humanitarian and a true patriot who loved his country and sacrificed much for her unity. His contributions to the welfare and well-being of his people will remain indelible in the annals of history of this nation.

“More importantly, Baba Soun was the custodian of the norms and traditions of his people, the preserver of the values and virtues of the Ogbomoso spirit. The people of Ogbomoso loved him and he commanded huge respect and admiration from home and abroad.

“Personally, Kabiyesi was a father to me. I am very close to his children and consider them my siblings. I always seek his counsel and experience whenever I visit home. His wisdom, demeanour and presence always leave me motivated,” he expressed.

Meanwhile, the daughter of the former governor of the state, Alao Akala, Mrs Olamide Alabi, the Chief Executive Officer of UméRa, an agricultural company, mourned the monarch.

She said: “I wish to offer my deep condolences to the royal family on the loss of our well referred and well-loved king. His intelligence and awareness were well embellished by kindness, charm and humour towards the people of Ogbomoso and seen by me during my numerous visits to the palace. 

“My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family which I am incidentally a part of.”
