Staying woke is not only knowing how to use your cutlery in public, making all kinds of dishes and creating terrific pictures of them; it is also about eating well and right, feeding on healthy meals and making sure the body is not suffering because of what one has been eating. Remember, food is the way to a man’s heart but the heart can be killed with the wrong food.
So, how do you eat healthy especially when you have chocolate bars staring at you when you are on a target to burn calories? What should you do at that moment you are craving your favourite meal or ice cream flavour?
Rule 1# Look away and get a distraction
Research has shown that high level of stress leads to higher food cravings. When you keep your mind healthy along with your body, you can get through cravings.
Some activities such as exercising, meditation or a simple walk help relieve our daily stress.
When you have decided to get your stress level maintained, you have to get a reason to keep up.
That brings the next rule
Rule 2# Have a goal
Are you trying to lose weight, keep fit, maintain a stature, and generally feel good and healthier? Ask these questions and make sure you find your answer.
Rule 3# Stay alert keep healthy foods nearby
This is another simple trick to stop eating junk food. Keep healthy snacks in your fridge, your car, and places where you spend a lot of time. Junk foods are easy to dig into, they are everywhere and if one is not careful, one would have taken so much fatty acids, excess sugar in. So keep the healthy food where you can see them.
Healthy nibbles
Mixed nuts, such as walnuts, cashew nuts, groundnuts and popcorn (with a controlled sugar filling) are excellent options for snacks.
Cucumber provides a similar crunch to a cracker, though way more refreshing.
Popcorn can make such a good swap. A food blogger advised that one cup of homemade, oil-popped popcorn has just two grams of fat, and you can control how much salt and sugar you want, preferably very little.
These would give you the same crunchy satisfaction as chips without all the unhealthy contents.
Apples are very good options, full of fiber, something most of us could use more of, and you still get the filling benefits from eating them. Apples are loaded with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and water.
Carrots are awesome. They are plentiful and economical, and always available year-round. They are also a powerhouse of vitamin A.
Eggs are low in saturated fat. Studies have shown that egg does not elevate blood cholesterol. If you’re watching your cholesterol levels, opt for egg whites-only. They are economical and have a long fridge life.
Safe drinks
Fresh fruit juice: Squeeze oranges, blend watermelon, in your cup and jugs when you have a nudge to get carbonated drinks.
Low fat yoghurt and fresh milk are options to buy if you have busy schedules and you need a drink.
When you have consciously created a habit of eating the best, then you have your next rule.
Rule #4 Appreciate yourself.
Eating healthy is an effort and should be attempted by all.
