Sorrow, as shot Delta police boss dies in hospital

Published by

“I’m sad; yes and you know why. If you’re closer to us, you’ll know that I’m sad and the command is sad. ”

These were the words of the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta Police Command, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, when Tribune Online called his line Tuesday evening to get a reaction to another round of brewing communal clash between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities in the state.

Unknown to Tribune Online, Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Ughelli Area Command, Usman Ndanbabo, who was shot twice last Sunday night, had breathed his last at an undisclosed hospital in Warri.

As of the time of filing this report, the Ughelli Area Command say, the state’s command in Asaba were thrown into deep mourning over the news of the tragedy.

Ndanbabo had spent just two days after he was shot by some unknown gunmen last Sunday.

It was gathered that the senior police officer was allegedly shot dead near the palace of the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom along Otovwodo in Ughelli Town at about 8:00pm on Sunday.

He was allegedly returning from an undisclosed outing in his Nissan SUV when he noticed that a Toyota car had been trailing him.

He was said to have tried fleeing from his car when he got to the roundabout opposite the palace of the Ovie of Ughelli, along Isoko Road.

But his assailants, who had perfected their plans, opened fire on him, sprayed bullets in the back and abdomen and left him in the pool of his blood.

Eyewitness said he was immediately rushed to a private clinic at Ughelli for medical attention, but was later transferred to another private clinic in Warri for treatment owing to the gravity of the gunshot wounds.

Detailed information concerning how he eventually died could not be ascertained, but a senior police officer insinuated to this reporter that the deceased must have broken some behavioural ethics guiding the Nigeria Police.

According to the top security source, a policeman who wants to live long must abstain from certain orgies.

“I don’t walk about. I don’t sit down anywhere to drink.

They say a policeman that wants to live long must abstain from drinking, must abstain from womanising, must abstain from unnecessary urge for money, must abstain from so many things that can give a policeman trouble.

And if he abstains from all these things, it will be like he’s using juju,” he averred.

It could not be verified as of the time of filing this report the lifestyle ACP Ndanbabo lived before life was snuffed out of him by unknown gunmen.
