SON advises youths to buy Made-in-Nigeria products

THE Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has urged youths to always buy Made-in-Nigeria products for a solid economic future.

The Enugu State Coordinator of SON, Mr Mohammed Yahya, gave the advice on Wednesday during an awareness campaign by the agency at the National Youths Service Corp (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Awgu near Enugu.

Yahya said young people ought to be in the forefront of the fight against sub-standard products for a guaranteed financial and economic future.

He further urged Nigerians to embrace standards as a way of life.

“Good people of Nigeria, especially you the youths; SON enjoins you to join as vanguards in the fight against fake and substandard products in the country.

“You must ensure you buy only products with quality NIS marks. Since, only SON certified products gives value for money,’’ he said.

The coordinator told the youths that only SON-certified products gave value for money.

“If you see or suspect sub-standard enterprises and products in your neighbourhood or environment, you should be bold enough and patriotic enough to report to the nearest SON personnel or office scattered throughout the country.

“The fight to ensure standard is necessary for young enterprising and productive youths to grow.

“So, always buy Made-in-Nigeria products for a better Nigeria,’’ he added.

Yahya expressed SON’s readiness to assist corps members to ensure quality and standardisation in any productive venture they undertook as well as getting NIS certification for their products.

Earlier, Dr Chinyere Duru, Head of Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development in NYSC, had said NYSC had included skill acquisition and entrepreneurship in its curriculum with a view to engaging the youth in productive ventures.

Duru, an Assistant Director, expressed appreciation to SON for the collaboration with NYSC to rid the country of sub-standard products.
