Baking tips
…for fresh flour
It has become impossible to have to bake something without having your flour in stock; especially for basic confectionery.
It is really important to keep flour safe to prevent insects; which is the most popular complaint in flour preservation, hence, these tips would help keep your flour in the pantry for as long as you want.
Keep flour storage cold
If you have a freezer space or compartment in your fridge, it is actually okay to keep flour in there. The cold will keep pests and insects away. If you do not have a freezer, it is better to keep a cool place at home, specially for flour which you should ensure has all vents closed. Asides that, keeping flour in airtight container for long term storage is advisable.
Keep flour storage dark
Flour storage areas or containers do not really need light or sun reflection. If you want to store in containers, ensure they are not transparent. Don’t keep your flour storage areas attractive to brightness as this would generate heat- which is the enemy of the flour.
Airtight storage
Spoilage comes from oxygen, so when there is no air, spoilage is slower. On that note, it is essential that you keep your flour in tight containers.
Note that when flour has been kept cold in the freezer for days after usage, you can transfer them to airtight containers. But it is wise not to buy more than the quantity you want to use each time.
