Some of those criticising Regina Daniel’s marriage wish to be in her position —Singer Annjay

You took a break from music. What have you been doing?

I have been extremely busy working for the past few years now. I’m a full time entrepreneur and a singer. I am into beauty products. I have been doing this business for a number of years and I’m happy doing it.

Are you going to quit music?

I’m not going to quit music. I will keep it flowing because of the passion I have for it. I have produced a lot of songs and I am still going to do more. I thank God for everything. My fans would hear me soon.

What gives you satisfaction in your new business?

Whenever I see my clients wearing Annjay brands! It gives me more courage to push and keep pushing. The fashion business is part of me even though it’s not been easy with the dollar exchange rates and customs duties.

Recently, you reprimanded those criticising Regina Daniels about her marriage. What’s your take on women marrying older men?

See, marriage is a choice and age is just a number. If she decided to marry an older man, it’s her choice and she is not the first and not going to be the last. What about those who married younger men and ended up divorcing them? What should we say about them? My own opinion is that if you find happiness in marrying an older man, its cool; go ahead as long as you are happy. Some of those criticising her wish to be in her position and some dey go Dubai go use mouth collect sh*t for dollars. I have read that story several times on Asian blogs. If I like make I marry old man, na my palaver.

Are you married?

No, but I’m in a relationship and I am not going to talk about it because it’s part of my privacy. I don’t like talking about relationships on newspapers or flaunting it on the social media. It’s part of my lifestyle and I like it that way and that doesn’t mean that I don’t love him or proud of him.

If you got married this Saturday, wouldn’t you share some pictures online?

Even if I marry today, I won’t publicise it.

What kind of man would you say yes to when the time comes?

I like God-fearing, intelligent, smart, young or older, ugly or handsome, all I need is a hard working person like me and I don’t care about height.

Which part of you do you appreciate the most?

Every part of my body is the best; but I love my slim stature and sexy eyes balls most.

Do you agree with this contention that it is not always easy for female singers to have a successful career without succumbing to sexual harassment?

No! I have never experienced it because music is all about you. If you have something doing for a living that is generating funds for you, I don’t see why you should be sexually harassed. It’s those looking for free things that are sexually harassed. Everyone knows me as a workaholic. I started working as a journalist and making my own money from advertisement at age 16. I don’t look for free productions or free song writers. And thankfully, the producers I work with are friends of my big brother and also family friends.

Why did you leave journalism?

Journalism prepared me for everything I’m today. It pays but the truth is I took up other businesses to support my music as well as pay bills. And when I can no longer combine both careers because my hands were full, I stopped working as a journalist. Many people still recognise me as a journalist in the industry. So, my passion for journalism is intact, if you ask me.

Which of these professions holds your utmost passion?

Music.

What should your fans expect from you musically?

They should expect more cool sounds and good music from me. I’m not done yet but taking my time to do things right musically. I’m not in a rush at all to release some songs.

How do you combine this with your businesses?

I have staff working for me. I can’t do all the work alone. Also, with grace of God, I have been able to combine both.

Why did you go into beauty and fashion products?

It’s part of my profession as a singer and a model. I have been doing this business before I went into journalism but not as big as it is now. Annjay product is international now. We have our clients globally. The latest Annjay product is Cura Sunglasses. It is the best of its kind.  Cura launched into the market few weeks ago.

What inspires you?

God and myself! My hard work inspires me a lot. I like beauty products too and I can spend my last kobo on it. As a teenager back then if I wanted to buy any beauty product and my money is not complete, I will go into installment agreements with them, after payment they hand over what I paid for to me. I use quality, expensive beauty products on myself and that’s why we sell good things.

How affordable are your products?

All our products are affordable. From our Brazilian virgin human hair, Annjay 3D Mink Lashes, Hair shampoo, conditioner, Cura Sun glasses and more, they are affordable. Anybody can afford it. Quality assurance is guaranteed.

Do you have a particular beauty routine?

Yes. I drink water every morning, eat a lot of fruits to keep my skin radiant and beautiful and I exercise regularly to keep fit.

Who are your best Nigerian designers?

I haven’t worked with any of them in the present but that doesn’t mean we are not going to work together in the future. I have international designers whose clothes, shoes, bags and perfume I wear and haven’t met them personally before.
