Soludo, Sanwo-Olu, Nwifuru mourn Chief of Army Staff, Lagbaja

Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, and Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi have expressed profound sorrow following the death of Nigeria’s former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.

Governor Nwifuru described Lagbaja’s passing as a monumental loss to both the Nigerian Army and the nation, commending his courage and dedication to the country’s security. In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, Nwifuru mourned the 56-year-old Army Chief, who died after a brief illness, highlighting his steadfast commitment to Nigeria’s peace, especially in the face of ongoing conflicts and insecurity.

“It is with a heavy heart that I learned of the passing of Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja,” Nwifuru said. “His legacy of service and leadership will endure in the hearts of those who had the privilege to work with him.”

Lagos State Governor Sanwo-Olu, who also mourned Lagbaja’s death, called it a “colossal loss” to Nigeria. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu praised Lagbaja’s contributions to Nigeria’s military efforts, particularly in combating insurgency and banditry.

“Lt. Gen. Lagbaja was a dutiful and committed soldier who served Nigeria with skill, gallantry, and total dedication. His loss is deeply felt by all,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Anambra State Governor Soludo also conveyed his condolences, emphasizing that the late General’s death represents a huge loss to the military and the country. In his message, Soludo reflected on Lagbaja’s distinguished military career, noting his leadership in critical operations and his significant role in securing the nation.

“The untimely death of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja at the age of 56 is a huge blow to the Nigerian Army,” Soludo said. “His service and commitment to Nigeria’s security remain an enduring testament to his dedication and sacrifice.”

All three governors extended their condolences to the Nigerian Army, the families of the deceased, and the nation, praying for the eternal rest of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja and strength for those mourning his loss.
