Sokoto: Uphold national values, Gov Aliyu tasks Corps members

Sokoto Governor, Dr Ahmed Aliyu, has urged corps members under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to be an agent of positive change with the aim of restoring national values and upholding all that is right.

Aliyu stated this on Friday at Wamakko permanent orientation camp during the administration of oath of allegiance on corps members posted to Sokoto State for the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream 11 orientation exercise.

The Governor who was represented by the secretary of the state government Alhaji Muhammad Bello Sifawa, commended the corps members for their roles in national assignments such as elections, census and national health programmes, said through their services, they have demonstrated what young people in the country can do when they are given the opportunity and challenged.

The Governor enjoined the corps members to uphold the ideals of the scheme.

He disclosed that their security is guaranteed in the State, stressing he would sustain the monthly allowance payable to Corps Members in the State.

Earlier, Sokoto State NYSC Coordinator Alhaji Usman Yakubu Yaro said the camp management had put in place, all necessary measures to ensure a hitch-free orientation programme.

He, therefore, called for cooperation of the corps members towards a successful exercise.

Usman implored the corps members to be disciplined saying camp activities are regimentals.

He also charged the corps members to fully participate in all camp activities, and to also utilize opportunities in keying to NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development to enable them self-reliance after the service year.

He thanked the state government, the Army, paramilitaries and other stakeholders for their unwavering support of the scheme.

The Chief Judge of the state Justice Muhammad Saaidu Sifawa represented by Justice Maryam Sifawa administered the oath of allegiance on the corps members.
