Sokoto state police command has inaugurated Operation Puff adder, an initiative of the IGP, to checkmate the uprising in the activities of kidnappers, armed bandits and other criminal elements threatening the peace of the state.
Not less than five local governments in the state, Sabon Birnin, Rabah, Tureta, Kebbe, and Goronyo, on the fringe of the border with Zamfara state, have been sub-divided into sectors/camps.
Each of these sectors is to be headed by a sector commander, specifically the DPO of the area, to be assisted by an ASP, while the camps will be manned by police mobile force personnel and vigilante/local hunters.
Inaugurating the joint operations comprising of the army, police and other sister security agencies in the state, commissioner of police, Ibrahim Sani Kaoje, reeled out their expected roles.

These include recovery of all illegal arms and ammunition in possession of the bandits, stamp out criminal activities from the identified LGAs, arrest for interrogation and possible prosecution of criminal elements within the stipulated areas, and identify escape routes and blocking those passages, to inflict maximum damages on the criminal elements.
The police commissioner also solicits for a good working synergy with the traditional and religious leaders for counseling, prayers, and valuable information which will go a long way in ensuring the success of the operation.
