The Sokoto State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has commiserated with victims of the fire outbreak at Sokoto Central Market on Monday morning.
Punch reports that a yet-to-be-determined source fire broke out at the motorcycles section of the market, with goods worth billions of naira burned completely.
In a statement signed by the spokesman of the party in the state, Hassan Sahabi Sanyinnawal, and made available to newsmen in the state, the party describes the incident as divinely ordained.
“We wish to commiserate with the victims of the fire that affected the motorcycle sellers of the Sokoto central market, resulting in the loss of property believed to be worth billions of Naira in the early hours of Monday.
“The PDP views the unfortunate incident as divinely ordained, and the party is, however, grateful that no life was lost in the blaze. We pray for fortitude on the part of the business community and their speedy recovery from the huge losses incurred through the incident.
“It is also our hope that the affected traders will soon resume their business activities, which are a crucial contribution to the commercial and economic life of our dear state.
“Our party wishes to enjoin the people of the state to exploit the current sacred season of Ramadan to seek divine protection against the recurrence of similar misfortunes and the prevalent socioeconomic predicaments being experienced in Sokoto State and Nigeria at large.”
