Sokoto: Gunmen ambush troops convoy, kill four

Gunmen suspected to be armed bandits have on Saturday reportedly laid  ambushed troops of the Nigeria Army personnel  in Gudu local government area border Community of Sokoto State, killing four soldiers in the process.

 

The Sole Administrator of the council, Hon Umar MaiKano Balle disclosed this while speaking with our correspondent in a telephone conversation.

 

Balle, who was among those ambushed by the bandits  escaped the assault by the whiskers, after operatives engaged in gun duel with the terrorists during the attack.

 

He said, ”  so far, 4 soldiers died and seven others wounded as a result of gunshots in addition to the burning of their vehicle.

“About six to seven soldiers sustained severe injuries as a results of the insurgents attacked.

 

“The injured security personnel who were initially attended to at Gudu General Hospital before they were referred  to the Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital Sokoto on Sunday”

 

He said the armed  bandits also set ablaze two operational vehicles

 

It was further gathered that more security personnel have already been deployed to the area as a result of the incident.

 

Efforts to get the reaction of the state government was not successful as the special adviser on security matters to the Sokoto State governor, Col. Ahmed Usman (rtd ) could not be reached as at the time of filing this report.

 

Efforts to speak with authorities of the Nigerian Army, 8 Division, was not successful, but a source in the Division confirmed the development but said only the Army headquarters in Abuja can speak on the incident.
