SOKOTO State government under the leadership of Rt. Honourable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal spends nothing less than seventy million nairas monthly on the provision of water within the state capital.
This is according to the Assistant General Manager of the state water board, Nasiru Muazu, during the media round table briefing organised by the board in conjunction with the E-WASH representatives in the state.
E-WASH, a programme funded by USAID, has entered into a partnership with Sokoto State water board, to tackle water scarcity challenges in Sokoto State.
The Assistant general manager highlighted how the government spends close to a hundred million naira monthly to provide water to the society.
He condemned the situation in which less than a million naira revenue is being generated by the board in a month.

Muazu further highlighted the huge amount state government is expanding on the provision of water monthly, which includes 30 million nairas for PHCN, 13 million nairas for maintenance, 12 million nairas on diesel and another 15 million nairas on chemicals for the treatment of the water.
The Deputy General Manager, however, appealed to the general public to take cognisance of the protection of water pipes as well as payment of their bills regularly to help the board meet up with the yearnings of the people in the state.
At a media training organised by the agency in conjunction with Sokoto state water board for working journalists and civil society in the state, the consensus was that the government and the consumers need to be alive to their responsibilities, in tackling water scarcity menace.
In his address, the General Manager of the state water board, Alhaji Ahmad Moyi Tambuwal, solicit for a cordial working relationship with journalists working in the state in enlightening the populace on the need to safeguard water pipes and need to settle their water rates promptly.
He commended the E-WASH team for their timely intervention on the happenings in the state water corporation, saying, the entire board has begun to feel the positive impact of their intervention.
Other speakers at the media forum emphasised the need for routine interaction among stakeholders to achieve efficient service delivery.
The GM further explained the need for the state to adequately fund the state water system in order to help it deliver on its responsibility to the entire populace.
