Sokoto govt sends 50 indigent students to study Medicine in Ukraine

Sokoto State Government has concluded every arrangement to sponsor not less than fifty indigenous students to the Republic of Ukraine on a full scholarship to study medical sciences.
While addressing the prospective students, the Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who was represented by the secretary to the state government, Professor Bashar advised the students to be a good ambassador of the State.
He revealed that his administration is fulfilling his promise of training not less than 200 students in the State on medical sciences abroad in addition to the inherited students from the previous administration.
The Governor disclosed that a total number of 100 students are currently in India, Twenty in Ghana and another thirty students are also in Sudan studying various aspects of medical sciences.
He disclosed that the remaining fifty are to take off to Ukraine immediately after the coming election while promising to sustain the sponsorship if given the opportunity to emerge Governor for a second term in office.
Speaking earlier at the special send-off organised by the Sokoto State Scholarship board, the chairman of the board, Honourable Altine Shehu Kajiji disclosed that the remaining fifty students going to Ukraine are the last batch of the students.
The director International students matters in the State, Kabiru J. Labaran, who gave an overview of the programme disclosed that the intending students were all choose based on merit.
He disclosed that not at any time did either the state Governor or any top government official intervene in the process of selecting students, but maintained that everyone chooses we’re based on merit.
A total number of four papers were presented at the orientation ceremony by four different resource persons. Amongst them are Dr Umar Usman, who spoke on medical challenges, the expectation of living and studying in a foreign country.
Dr Larai Aliyu Tambuwal, also speaks on challenges of living and studying in a foreign country, while Dr Jabir Sani Maihulla, speaks on “general advice on how to guide yourself and your religion”.
Also speaking, Mr Maxwell, who is a citizen of Ukraine based in Nigeria. He also advised the students to be law-abiding while assuring them of adequate preparation on the ground in Ukraine
