Sokoto govt presents visa to 26 Ukraine bound students

Sokoto state government has presented travelling Visa to twenty-six intending students to continue their studies in Ukraine, through the state scholarships board.

The students, who are part of the 200 students promised by the state Governor, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, to send abroad to study medicine and other medicine inclined courses.

It will be recalled that not less than 150 of the students are already in different countries that include Sudan, Ghana and Indian to pursue their academic pursuits.

Speaking at the ceremony, the state chairman of Scholarships board, Hon. Shehu Altine Kajiji explained that the process leading to the selection was neither influenced nor politicised.

According to him, “As we are talking today, twenty-six (26), visas are certified as genuine while twenty-two (22), are classified as having problems and in the process of resolving the issues.

“This is the main reason why the journey is being delayed because we feel we should make all efforts to be fair to all the students and try as much as possible to make the journey together.

“With the turn of events, this is no longer possible. The journey will be divided into two” he explained.

The chairman further explained that the remaining twenty-four (24), will join their counterparts as soon as their travelling documents are ready for collection.

“Ukraine bound, the delay we experienced were mostly on issues of securing visas for both the students and officials, besides other requirements that were different or entirely not there from our experiences with other countries” he explained.

In his remarks, Abduljeleel, one of the beneficiary students who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, thanked the state the Governor as well as the entire management of Scholarships board.

He assured the state government that all the orientation given to them will be put to use in Ukraine.

Abduljeleel, however, called for prayers from the people of the state for their success in a foreign country, while promising that they will all come back to contribute to the development of the state.

Also speaking, a parent of one of the students, Garba Ladan, commended the state government for the initiative, saying it will go a long way to improve the state.

He advised the students to be focused on their education and not to engage in any negative effect in their studies abroad.
