Sokoto correspondent chapel elects new executive

The Sokoto State Correspondent Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Sokoto State Council, on Wednesday, March 12, elected new leadership of the chapel.

The election, which was conducted at the chapel office, the press centre, saw Ankeli Emmanuel, a correspondent with National Accord, emerge as the chairman with 18 votes, defeating Ismail Umar of the Voice of Nigeria, English version, who received nine votes.

Also, Musa Ubandawaki of Vanguard Newspaper defeated Adeniyi Olugbemi of Leadership Newspaper, while Umar Danladi Ado of Triumph Newspaper defeated Innocent Onuminya of This Day Newspaper to emerge as Treasurer.

Others who emerged unopposed include Olakunle Maruf of Tribune Newspaper as Assistant Secretary, Adamu Suleiman of The Nation as Vice Chairman, and Shaf’aatu Suleiman of The Sun Newspaper, who also emerged as Auditor.

Speaking in his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman, Ankeli Emmanuel, commended members of the chapel for the peaceful conduct of the election.

He assured that the new executive members would strive to ensure members are more united to ensure transparency and more productivity.

Earlier in his remarks, the chairman of the council in the state, Usman Binji, commended the credential committee for delivering a satisfactory election.

He called on the newly elected chairman and his executive to carry every member along in the discharge of their duties to the public.

He called on members to always work in tandem with the council in the best interest of the council.

The chairman said the state executive council is very proud of the correspondent chapel, while urging the Ankeli-led team to ensure members get the reward for their deeds.

Earlier in his remarks, the chairman of the credential committee, Abdullah El-kurebe, assured all the contestants of his committee’s readiness to ensure a free, fair and credible election.

He said the committee would work to ensure the unity of the chapel is not compromised in any way.
