Sokoto State Police Command has prepared to celebrate the maiden National Police Day, a historic event aimed at recognising the sacrifices and dedication of police officers in maintaining peace, security, and justice in Nigeria.
In line with the presidential directive of April 15, 2024, this annual observance, set for April 7, is a moment of reflection and appreciation for law enforcement personnel across the country.
To kick off the celebrations, the Sokoto State Police Command has outlined a series of impactful activities, starting from Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
These initiatives, according to the statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday by the command spokesman, DSP Ahmed Rufai, designed to strengthen police-community relations, include free medical services, sanitation efforts in public areas, and engagement sessions with community leaders and stakeholders.

“The goal is not only to honor the service of police officers but also to foster greater trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the people they protect”
The statement further said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, expressed the significance of the day, emphasising the commitment of the Sokoto State Police Command to professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
“This day serves as a reminder of our unwavering dedication to the protection of lives and property. We will continue to collaborate with communities to ensure safety, security, and the rule of law,” CP Musa stated.
As part of the celebrations, officers will participate in various outreach programs aimed at improving the well-being of residents.
He continued, “The free medical services initiative will provide much-needed healthcare assistance to the underprivileged, reinforcing the police’s role beyond law enforcement.
“Meanwhile, sanitation efforts will see officers and volunteers working side by side to clean public spaces, symbolizing their commitment to societal welfare beyond security duties.
“Furthermore, interactive forums with community leaders, traditional rulers, and civil society organizations will address key policing concerns, ensuring that law enforcement strategies are continuously refined to meet the needs of the people.
“The engagement will serve as a platform for open dialogue, reinforcing the principle that policing is a shared responsibility”
The Sokoto State Police Command extends its gratitude to the government, the Sultanate, traditional leaders, civil society groups, and the general public for their unwavering support in fostering a secure and harmonious society.
The command urges all citizens to remain law-abiding and actively participate in building a peaceful and stable Sokoto State.
As the nation embraces this momentous occasion, the celebrations in Sokoto serve as a shining example of how community-centered policing can bridge gaps and strengthen relationships.
With the National Police Day now an annual tradition, it presents an opportunity to honor the noble sacrifices of those who dedicate their lives to ensuring safety and justice for all.
