The internet was set abuzz on Thursday, as friends, colleagues, and admirers across various social media platforms celebrated the birthday of Akinrinlola Olumide, the publisher of Starnews.
From Facebook timelines to buzzing WhatsApp groups, birthday wishes poured in for the seasoned journalist, activist, and pastor, who recently relocated to Canada.
In what appeared to be a digital festival of admiration, many WhatsApp groups changed their display pictures to Olumide’s photo to honour the occasion.
Facebook was also flooded with celebratory posts, with some high-profile individuals and groups issuing official statements in recognition of his impact and legacy.
Among the dignitaries who celebrated Akinrinlola were Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, Senator Boluwaji Kunlere, Chief Eddy Olafeso, Chief Ikandu Peretei, and Mr. Adebayo Akinrogunde, federal Member of Parliament candidate for Winnipeg North, representing the New Democratic Party (NDP) in Canada.
Dr. Samuel Abey, the Chairman of the ICAN Branch in Ilupeju/Gbagada, the Bring Back Our Light group and several others whose names are too numerous to mention also issued heartfelt tributes.
Olumide, who is widely known for his fearless activism and commitment to social justice, is the convener of the Council for Concerned Youths of Nigeria (COCYON).
Under his leadership, the group played a pivotal role in demanding the promulgation of anti-open grazing laws in Ondo State during the administration of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
As the founder of the Bring Back Our Light (BBOL) movement, Olumide was instrumental in the restoration campaign for electricity in Ondo South, a cause that earned him widespread recognition and respect across the state and beyond.
His birthday celebration served as a reminder of his enduring influence as a voice against injustice and anti-people policies.
Though now based in Canada, Akinrinlola Olumide’s footprints remain deeply etched in the sands of Nigerian advocacy and media.
