Smoking and heart disease

I want to know how smoking can cause heart disease.

Ibukun (by SMS)

Smoking causes the arteries to harden and thicken through the accumulation of fatty deposits and plaque, a condition known as atherosclerosis. This process restricts blood flow to the heart and other organs, increase heart disease. Smoking reduces levels of HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol, commonly known as “good” cholesterol. HDL helps remove LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol, referred to as “bad” cholesterol, from the arteries.

When HDL levels are low, there is less efficient removal of LDL cholesterol, leading to an increased risk of plaque buildup and heart disease. Smoking raises blood pressure by causing the blood vessels to constrict and by increasing the heart rate.

More strain on the cardiovascular system, making the heart work harder to pump blood throughout the body. High blood pressure can damage the arteries and organs, increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke, and other complications.
