Saheed in his divorce suit stated that his wife was troublesome, disobedient and adulterous. He, therefore, prayed the court to terminate their relationship and grant him custody of their three children.
Oluwaseyi agreed to divorce but pleaded with the court not to honour her husband’s prayer with regards to their children.
“I no longer desire to live under the same roof with my wife. She irritates and turns me off these days.
“She was as gentle as a dove when we were courting, but turned wild and became a difficult person to relate with the moment we got married.
“She has no regard or respect for me. She goes against my instructions and any time I stand my ground on a particular issue, she fights me.
“My wife goes out and comes in at will. She has since failed to be a dutiful wife and caring mother. She cares less about our children’s welfare; they thus appear under fed and are not presentable.
“I, therefore, took up her responsibility in the home. I do the cooking on a regular basis so that our children won’t die of hunger.
“My lord, I no longer trust her since she now engages in extra marital affairs. She had an affair with one of my colleagues. I never suspected he was sleeping with her until I came across the text messages they had been exchanging. She initially denied ever having anything to do with this colleague of mine, but started pleading when she realised the cat had been let out of the bag.
“I reported her to her parents. They mediated in the issue and we made up, but she later went back to her old ways.
“And then she began to brag. Whenever we fight she would tell me how well connected she is and will threaten to lock me up in the cell.
“She made her threat real the last time we fought. She got me arrested by the police who locked me up.
“My lord, a woman who did this is capable of sending one to jail. I, therefore, don’t want to have anything to do with her again, ‘the plaintiff stated.
“I’m also no more interested in a man who has no worth, ”the defendant stated.
“I’ve not had rest of mind since we got married 15 years ago and this is taking its toll on my health.
“My husband is rigid and difficult to understand. He doesn’t see anything good in whatever I do. He’s also so complex in his ways that it has became a big task relating with him.
“He’s in the habit of cursing me and this he does morning and night. He did this very often when I was pregnant with our first child and I nearly lost my life and that of our baby.
“He lied that I’m adulterous. His plan is to paint me black before this court. He never caught me with any man and no other man has ever seen my nakedness except him.
“It’s true I got him arrested by the police. He pushed me to the wall with his constant beatings. Any time he beats me, he will ensure he leaves me with a wound to nurse.
“I’m tired of the cat and mouse lifestyle we are both living. Please, separate us and grant me custody of our children, “Oluwaseun said.
Giving his judgment, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade observed that there was no more love between the duo.
He thus ruled that their marriage be dissolved. The defendant was granted custody of their children while the plaintiff was asked to pay N10, 000 per month as the children’s feeding allowance.
He was also mandated to be responsible for their education and general welfare.
