Skills acquisition: NDE selects 18 states for community-based training

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has flagged off the training of unemployed youths on the Community-Based Training Scheme (CBTS) in the 18 selected states of the country.

Speaking during the ceremony held on Wednesday at the Mallam Yahaya federal secretariat complex in Gusau Zamfara state, the Director General, NDE, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo said the participants would undergo three months of training with a monthly stipend.

“I am highly excited to be with you today as this is another wonderful opportunity for our selected trainees of the scheme in various skills that include knitting, fashion design, GSM repair, computer and makeup.”

The DG who was represented by Zamfara state NDE Coordinator, Hajiya Hamza kolo Khadija said it is a great opportunity for the unemployed youths to be self-reliant in the state.

She explained that the community-based training scheme is a scheme introduced to the VSD department to help youth both males and females acquire marketable skills within a short period of time.

According to the DG, 42 trainees have been recruited and are currently receiving training for the period of (3) months.

“This training will take place only in eighteen (18) selected states and you are lucky Zamfara State is among the
eighteen selected states.

“NDE has over the years created a lot of job opportunities for both male and female in the state by training
them and provide them with a starter pack of resettlement for self-employment.

“It is pertinent to let you know that this orientation and life skills training is for forty-two (42) selected trainees drawn from the 14 local government areas of the state.

“All the 42 trainees undergoing this training would be paid a monthly stipend of N5,000 per month for the period of the training and also the trainers will be paid for their services at the rate of N5,000 per trainee each month depending on the number of trainees attached to the master trainer.”

Earlier on, Hajiya Lauratu Abdullahi from the Vocational Skills Department (VSD) NDE headquarters, Abuja said the training is an opportunity for people to acquire skills acquisition and become self-reliant.

She urged the participants to listen carefully, saying”you are selected among thousands from the 14 local government areas in the state, be of good conduct and become an employer of others.
