He explained that the Agency is at the forefront of “supporting technology, supporting skills acquisition, and innovation knowledge among youths in the country.”

“That is why NASENI has supported the National Sewing Championship 2024,” he stated, emphasizing that skill acquisition has become very important for the growth of the Nigerian economy. “It is no longer just about our children going to school.”

“As they go to school, we are encouraging them to learn a skill alongside so that they can become financially self-independent after leaving school,” he added.

Halilu noted that NSC24 is a wake-up call for every youth in the country to learn a skill. “It is amazing to see how these children could make clothes within hours as if they have been trained for many years. It is encouraging.”

Represented by Engr. Itohen Otoyamun, the EVC stated further that youth empowerment programs are essential for the economic growth of the country.

“Skills acquisition among youths will boost the economy, improve security, and reduce vices in Nigeria because many young minds will be gainfully engaged.

“So, we go around the 36 states of Nigeria, empowering youths in different acquisition programs that will help them become self-employed and contribute positively to the development of the country,” he stated.

NSC24 was organized by the Ladi Memorial Foundation (LMF). Over 1,400 youths across the nation registered for the program, with 54 qualifying for the national championship competition, which was held in Abuja.

The national contestants were trained in business development and management, pattern drafting, maintenance of a sewing machine, and other skills.
