Sit-at home: Imo residents return to business activities

Published by

Residents of Imo State have returned to their usual daily business activities unhindered, following the relaxation of the Monday sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

This is the first time in two months when the Monday sit-at-home order was issued by the IPB to residents in the South-East region, that Imo State would not observe it.

While vehicles, tricycles and Okada riders flooded the roads, business centres, filling stations, markets, popular eating joints, artisans and the hospitality industry boomed with activities.

The popular intra-city cabs (aka BusImo) were seen in all the roads and streets within the Owerri capital city and its environs, just as loading and offloading of passengers went on smoothly in all motor parks visited.

Retailing and buying of items by sellers and buyers were observed by our correspondent.

The above notwithstanding, armed mobile policemen patrolled some of the major roads within the Owerri metropolis with their vehicles stationed at strategic junctions.

This was in addition to the hovering of the city by a helicopter suspected to belong to the Nigerian Police Force, but which however instilled fears among the residents.

The picture was the same in the local government areas and communities where the movement of vehicles and commercial activities thrived in full swing.

A roadside artisan in the Obowo Council, who simply gave his name as Nnakwe, described the development as healthy, noting that sitting at home would never be the solution.
