Published by

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Zone 9 Umuahia, Echeng Eworo Echeng has appealed to the people of South East zone of Nigeria to ignore the two weeks Sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB/ESN and go about their normal business.

Answering questions from newsmen in Owerri on Thursday during his familiarization visit to the Imo State Police Command Owerri, Echeng said that the police commands in the zone are already on top of the situation.

While assuring adequate security of lives and properties in all parts of the zone, the AIG assured that the police have already put measures on the ground to secure the people.

He said: “What justifies their claims that they want to liberate their people when they are killing them, burning their properties”.

The AIG while commending the Imo State Command for providing necessary security in and around the state, he reiterated their commitment towards the fight against crimes and criminality in the zone.

He said: “Police are ready to take the fight to those who do not want peace so that the economy and properties of the people will not be destroyed”.

AIG Echeng said that with the collaboration of other sister security agencies in the state, the fight which he described as a collective one must be won.

He commended Governor Hope Uzodinma for ensuring peace in the state and for assisting the Police to discharge their duties of securing lives and properties in the state.

Welcoming the AIG to the state, the Imo State Commissioner of Police CP. Mohammed Barde informed him that he met the activities of organized local terrorist groups identified as the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB and its armed affiliate the Eastern Security Network ESN.

He said that on assumption of office, incidents of kidnapping, armed robbery, unlawful sit-at-home order which had resulted in burning of Police stations, killing of Policemen with other sustaining life threatening injuries were talk of the day.

The CP said that the Command adopted a strategy that helped the command to drastically combat and brought down violent crime in the state to its bestest minimum.

He said that the essence of AIG visit to the Imo State Police Command is to familiarize himself with the men and officers of the command and to have cognitive knowledge of the terrain.
