MINISTER of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, has said the country can now boast of a company that produces SIM card for the telecommunications industry, urging companies to patronise the firm.
He made this known while speaking with journalists after his keynote address at the University of Ibadan School of Business (UISB’s) eminent person business lecture series entitled “Maximising the potential of the telecommunications industry for reversing recession and the economic growth of Nigeria,” held that the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, on Saturday.
He promised that his ministry would ensure there was legislation to create market for the industry and preserve the nation’s foreign exchange.
He added that it was painful that Nigerians had penchant for foreign made goods, instead of locally made goods, which could contribute to the economic development of the country.
He said: “I am happy that the The Single Treasury Account (TSA) software that has helped saved the nation of wastage a and block leakages was developed in Nigeria and by a Nigerian. “Today, we no have a local manufacturer of SIM cards in Nigeria for telecommunication industries.”
