Shutdown Dangote Company, Adamawa community urges govt

Following the misunderstanding between the host community of Gyawana hosting the Dangote Savanah Sugar Company in Lamurde LGA of Adamawa State on the 15th July 2021, during which many people were injured by the Nigerian army who were invited by the management of the company, the people of the area are demanding an indefinite shutdown of the Company pending when all issues concerning re-occurring clashes with the military and other security agencies are amicably resolved.

This according to the people, will allow all the contending parties to agree in the interest of the host community and the company just it will help in identifying those who are the cause of these clashes and are made to face the full wrath of the law

The decision of the community was made known by the Gyawana Concerned Group, the host community of Sahavana Suger Company owned by Dangote Group, in a press briefing in Gyawana, Lamurde local government area of Adamawa State, on Wednesday.

The spokesman of the group, Livinus Kwete said that “the company, Dangote Sugar Refinery in Numan should remain Shutdown pending the outcome of all discussions by the People of Gyawana and the Corporate Headquarters of the Company in Lagos.”

While Condemning the clashes, the group said that the Management of Dangote Sugar Refinery is primarily responsible for instigating the Nigerian Army attack against Gyawana People.

Livinus added that “these recurrent acts of Military and other security operations attack on the community is often masterminded by the Management of Dangote Sugar Refinery against the Gyawana Community, stressing that there is need for serious concerns and effort to stop future attacks by all and sundry.”

He added that “No amount of investments by the Dangote Sugar Refinery is worth the blood of any single Nigerian. The attack by the Military and other security agents against the Fundamental Rights of their People at the instant of Dangote Sugar Refinery is one too many.”

The community, however, appreciated Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru for his quick response as the victims of the military bullets are currently on admission at the Clinic in Lamurde and University Teaching Hospital Jos receiving medical attention.
