Shun social vices to be good ambassadors, prof Nweke charges Alumni Association

THE Dean of Post Graduate School Ebonyi state University, Abakaliki, Prof Eugene Nweke has urged the institution alumni to synergise with the University authority in the fight against social vices like exam malpractices, Campus marriage, lesbianism, homosexualism among others through constant sensitisation.

According to him, it will assist them to strive to be the best of whatever they do in life and also be good ambassadors of the University and making the world a better place.

Prof Nweke gave the advice during the 3rd homecoming/congress of members of Ebonyi State University Alumni Association in Abakaliki, where an Alumni, Dr Kelechi Ani who lectures at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike Ikwo (AEFUNAI) offered to help in supervising Postgraduate students of his alma mater on (probono) free of charge as his social responsibility role to the University.

During the association’s 3rd homecoming with the theme ”Consolidating in our Pride – Hard Work”, Prof Nweke who was chairman of the occasion commended the association for embarking on construction of Medical centre at the University ‘s permanent site, saying that the centre upon completion will reduce the number of deaths recorded in the school following sudden health crisis and accidents.

On his part, Dr Ani said the offer is his own way of plowing back to the University and to help the students end the era of unusual many years and unnecessary money spent in EBSU post-graduate school.

Speaking at the occasion, one of the members, Dr Friday Nkwede challenged the members to improve on their current states in life by furthering their academics and or learn advanced trades or skills to ensure their continued relevance in the society.

Earlier in his speech, National President of the Association Mr Kenneth Ereke called for all hands to be on deck in assisting the school to overcome it’s myriad of challenges.

”It is, therefore, a clarion call to all of us to look into ways of assisting our University to overcome its myriad of challenges in playing this crucial role of preparing men and women who will be found worthy in character and learning in handling the affairs of the society.

”We are proud that the University has made tremendous progress in the areas learning, research and infrastructural development, but more still need to be done.

”It is in this regard that we despite our meagre resources embarked on the construction of ultra-modern health centre complex at the university permanent site as our little contribution to our Alma mater. The building had reached an advanced stage and it is my sincere hope that before we gather again this year for our normal annual homecoming, the health centre must have been completed and handed over to the University accordingly.

”I urge all our members irrespective of states of origin to assist our University in their quest to be among the leading Universities in the world. The Ivy League Universities are what they are because of the magnanimity of their alumni,” the National President noted.
