Shettima returns to Nigeria, meets US Secretary, Campbell

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday evening returned to Nigeria after representing President Bola Tinubu at the just concluded International Development Association (IDA) summit in Nairobi, Kenya.

On arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, the Vice President met behind closed doors with the United States Deputy Secretary of State, Kurt Campbell, and his team.

The Vice President’s Spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, revealed in a statement titled ‘VP Kashim Shettima back in Nigeria, meets US Secretary Campbell on arrival.’

“Among issues discussed at the meeting were security, bilateral relations, shared visions, technological cooperations, economic and mutual partnership.

“Both countries pledged to work more on deepening their bilateral relationships and their connectivity,” Nkwocha revealed.

Deputy Secretary Campbell has been in Nigeria where he was the co-chair of the sixth US-Nigeria Binational Commission with Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar.

At the high-level gathering, hosted by Kenyan President William Ruto, Shettima joined other African leaders to call for an ambitious replenishment of the World Bank’s IDA concessional lending arm.

This concludes his ninth foreign trip since assuming office 11 months ago.

Shettima has so far represented President Tinubu in Rome, Italy; Moscow, Russia; Johannesburg, South Africa; Havana, Cuba; Beijing, China; Iowa, the USA; Davos, Switzerland and Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
