Shelve planned industrial action in interest of masses, stakeholder urges NLC

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) planned industrial action scheduled to commence on Tuesday nationwide will further compound the nation’s economic woes.

This is the submission of a prominent member of the Association of Private School Proprietors, Oyo state, Chief Isiaka Ominiwe Ibraheem.

In a statement, Ibraheem noted that the industrial action, as planned by the NLC, is ill-timed, considering the multifaceted challenges confronting Nigeria as a nation.

The statement reads, ‘Happenings in our political space in Nigeria and the world at large recently call for sober reflections from all and sundry, instead of confrontation!

“While we all agree that workers have the right to go on strike, it is pertinent to also note that it’s the last option for any organised labour to employ after other options have been exhausted.

The recent one that our labour unions are contemplating is ill-timed, conceived, and might even be considered political.

“Moreover, the present administration is just two months old in office and needs the support of all well-meaning Nigerians to come up with ideas on how to fast track Moving Nigeria Forward, especially when the country is faced with a myriad of problems, which Asiwaju led Administration is trying to proffer solutions to.

“We implore the organised labour Unions to go and sheathe their swords for now and come forward with pragmatic steps or suggestions on how to move our country forward, not to frustrate the gallant efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to put our Country back on the path of economic recovery, growth, and reckoning.

“Any strike now will compound Nigerians’ problems and will serve no meaningful purposes at all. It is better to jaw-jaw rather than to war-war.

“We equally appreciate the bold steps and policy strategies employed so far, but our President must tell our Governors to quickly roll out palliative intervention programs to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians as a result of the galloping inflation being experienced now, though it is not limited to our Country only. God bless our President. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
